BPD Officers earn National Safety Council award.

On June 20th, Officers Brent Mueller, Jo Ann Mignon and Kirk Schend received the Award of Honor from the Awards & Recognition Committee of the Youth Activities Division, National Safety Council. This national recognition is the direct result of efforts made by the officers for establishing the Wisconsin Beat the Heat program, which was created to show youth the potential they have and to encourage them to strive for their goals. The award letter stated that the officers "...will be receiving the Award of Honor in recognition of their safety and health programs and activities that promote safety and health, save lives, prevent injury, and contribute to the advancement of issues that effect our nation's youth."

The Officers are invited to attend the 2001 Youth Safety Congress held September 22 - 25 in Atlanta Georgia. There they will have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops, special activities, and tours to help further their education and involvment in safety and health. They will also be recognized at the Congress Awards banquet.

In addition to the national recognition bestowed upon the officers, youth members of the Beat The Heat program are also eligible for the 2001 Youth Scholarship Program, also sponsored by the National Safety Council.

"We have had the support from this community. They had the faith in our abilities to support us over the years," said Officer Mignon.
Officer Schend added, "We're glad that we have had the opportunities to work with the kids that we have."
